Meet Gilbert Onyango
Mr. Onyango is also the Founder of EACHRights and member of the Board of Trustees. He is a seasoned Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a distinguished career in the NGO sector.

Mr. Gilbert Onyango is the Founder and member of the Board of Trustees at EACHRights. He started his career in the non-governmental sector commenced in 2002 as a legal intern with The CRADLE – The Children’s Foundation. Over the years, he demonstrated exemplary commitment and leadership by ascending to the role of Deputy Director. Between June and December 2010, Mr. Onyango held the position of Regional Deputy Director for the Canadian Bar Association’s Strengthening Access to Justice in Eastern Africa (SAJEA) Programme, which was hosted by the Tanganyika Law Society in in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. His notable tenure as the Regional Director of EACHRights spanned from December 2010 to May 2015 when he joined a Swiss NGO known as UPR Info as the Regional Director for Africa in June, 2015, a position he held until December, 2020. Mr. Onyango resumed his role as Executive Director of EACHRights in November, 2022.
Mr. Onyango’s obtained his LL.B Degree from Dr. BAM University, Aurangabad, India in 1999 and was subsequently admitted to the Kenyan Bar in 2002. As an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Commissioner for Oaths, and Notary Public. In 2008, Mr. Onyango earned a Master’s of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Management and Organisational Development from United States International University, Africa (USIU-A) and a Master’s of Arts (M.A.) Degree in Development Studies with a major in Human Rights, Development, and Social Justice from the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) at Erasmus University, Rotterdam in 2012.
Throughout his career, Mr. Onyango has actively pursued professional development opportunities both locally and internationally. His portfolio includes courses in child rights, human rights, law, development, strategic planning and management, human resource management, project evaluation, and grant making.
